The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 375 NICHOLAS, Archie Hubert WWII Archie was born in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army on January 3, 1941 and served with the Royal 22nd Regiment in Italy where he was wounded in action in Ortona. Archie was discharged from the Army in 1947. NIKIFORUK, Daniel WWII & SPECIAL DUTY AREA Daniel was born in North Battleford in 1920. He joined the Army and served with the Westminster Regiment Infantry Unit in Italy, France and participated in the Dieppe Raid with the Canadian Armoured Division. Daniel was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. He was discharged on February 14, 1946. NORDLUND, Hough Arnold WWII & PEACETIME Hough was born in Central Butte, Saskatchewan in 1922. In 1940 at the age of 18, Hough rode a freight train to enlist in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and trained as a wireless operator. His operational tours started on coastal patrols with HMCS Crest and Prince Henry. He then served on North Atlantic convoy escort duty on HMCS Alberni and Suderoy V. Hough was commissioned as an officer from “Below Decks” on HMCS Penatang in the winter of 1943-44. He volunteered for barge service during the D-Day Invasion and was wounded twice, once off the coast of Norway and at Omaha Beach while commanding a landing craft. He recovered and was posted to HMCS Kootenay. After serving in Canada, England, Ireland, Malta, Murmansk, Archangel, Scapa Flow, Omaha Beach and Normandy, Hough was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. He was very active with the North Saskatchewan Regiment Militia in Prince Albert and has been a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2 for many years.
