The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 359 MUNRO, Allan “Ted” WWII Ted was born on March 10, 1916 in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. Six brothers from the Munro family were members of the Canadian Armed Forces: George, Allan, Peter, Arthur and Robert enlisted between 1940 and 1943 and John enlisted in 1949, prior to the Korean War. Ted was a grain buyer before enlisting in the Army in June 1940 and leaving for overseas in 1941. Ted was sent to Europe with the Regina Rifles and was killed in action on October 27, 1944 during the battle for the Breskens Pocket. Sergeant Munro is buried in the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Belgium, along with 844 other Canadian soldiers. He was survived by his wife Margaret and a daughter. MUNRO, Andrew Peter WWII Andrew was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan on June 1, 1918. Six brothers from the Munro family were members of the Canadian Armed Forces: George, Allan, Peter, Arthur and Robert enlisted between 1940 and 1943 and John enlisted in 1949, prior to the Korean War. Andrew joined the Navy in December 1941 in Saskatoon where he trained as well as at Esquimalt. He served as Leading Seaman First Class during World War II. Andrew passed away on August 2, 1987. MUNRO, Arthur WWII Arthur was born on March 5, 1923 in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. Six brothers from the Munro family were members of the Canadian Armed Forces: George, Allan, Peter, Arthur and Robert enlisted between 1940 and 1943 and John enlisted in 1949, prior to the Korean War. Arthur joined the Saskatoon Light Infantry as a machine gunner in 1941 and went to Europe in March 1943. He served in Europe and in the Italian Campaign with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Private Munro suffered serious head wounds in close combat in Italy, injuries so severe that he was left for dead. Part of his lengthy recovery occurred in a field hospital in North Africa. Arthur returned to his home town of Lucky Lake where he farmed on the Munro homestead and he and his wife Mary later ran the Home Town Hardware. Mary died in 1996. Arthur met Iona McConnel in 1998 and they married in 1999. Arthur was a member of Lucky Lake Legion Branch 209 prior to his passing on November 30, 2009 at the age of 86.
