The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 311 MAHER, William Patrick “Bill” WWI Bill was born on March 19, 1897 in St. Jean, Manitoba. The family moved to Cannington Manor, NWT in 1905. Bill enlisted with the Fort Garry Horse in February 1917 at Tuxedo Park in Winnipeg. He was killed in action in France on April 2, 1918 and is buried at Namps-au-Val, a British Cemetery in Somme, France. MANDZIAK, Alex WWII Alex was born in 1922 in Ituna, Saskatchewan. He joined the Winnipeg Light Infantry in 1942 and trained in Saskatchewan and Manitoba before transferring to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles for motor mechanics school. After completing this course with high marks, Alex was transferred to Division Headquarters where he was known as Driver 1 C, or better known as Driver in Command. In 1924, Alex boarded the ship Aquitania for England to train for the front lines. A few weeks later in the middle of the night, Dave boarded the plane to Padimo, Germany, where he repaired trucks, jeeps and vans, then headed just behind the front lines to Amsterdam, Holland. Two weeks later, the push was made into Germany and shortly after, the war was over. After serving in Canada, England, Germany, Holland and Belgium, Alex came home in 1946 to farm and he raised two children with his wife Olga. Alex passed away in 2014. MANSELL, David G. PEACETIME David was born in England on December 11, 1941. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in August 1961 and served as an Aircraftman (AC1) in Canada until he left the service in September 1962. David married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
