The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 309 MACLENNAN, Bruce WWII Bruce was born in 1924 in Regina, Saskatchewan where his father worked as a school Principal and was Superintendent of the Division. His brother Ian remembers that as a boy, Bruce couldn’t tell a joke without cracking up and laughing. The family moved to a Gull Lake in 1926 when Bruce’s father was named Superintendent of the division. Upon Bruce’s graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served as a wireless gunner with 419 Squadron, No. 6 Bomber Group. He was killed during a daylight raid on Hamburg on March 31, 1945. He is buried in the Becklingen War Cemetery in Germany. MACLENNAN, Ian Roy WWII Ian was born in 1919 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served with 401 Squadron in Malta. He was shot down on D-Day plus 1, June 7, 1944, and imprisoned at Stalag Luft III. He was transferred to Austria after a long March then escaped, hitchhiked and walked Paris as the war ended. Ian took part in two documentaries produced by the History Channel on The Siege of Malta and the Canadian Aces. Ian was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. He passed away in 2013. MAGUIRE, Robert A. PEACETIME Robert was born in Canada on November 23, 1943. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 29, 1961 and served as Leading Aircraftman. Robert married and became a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
