The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 275 LADEROUTE-ALLAN, Edith Marie WWII Edith was born in 1921 in Ste Rose du Lac, Manitoba. She enlisted in Regina in September 1942 and served in the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force in London, England with the UK Base Accounts Division -Knightsbridge Harrods Department Store. Corporal Laderoute-Allan served from 1942 to 1946 as a clerkaccountant and returned to teaching in the Creelman, Saskatchewan area following the war. She married Colin Allan in October 1946 and was a member of Stoughton Legion Branch 133 for thirty years before she passed away in 2006. LAFAYETTE, Glenn Edward WWII Glenn was born on November 28, 1913 on a farm near Fiske, Saskatchewan. Glenn farmed except for a brief interruption of the war years. He enlisted in the Canadian Army where he served as a cook, a craft he learned from his mother Lillie. He served between 400 and 1300 men in camp. He was stationed in Belgium, Holland, France, England and Scotland. Glenn also joined a Farmers Union in 1953 when he started farming his own land. He believed in people helping one another in achieving greater things. Glenn never married and had no children. He was a member of Legion Branch 7 for thirty-eight years before his death in June 1985. He is buried in a Soldiers’ plot in Herschel. LAFAYETTE, William “Earl” WWII Earl was born in Pleasant Valley on August 9, 1918 and he served overseas during World War II. He was in the Armed Forces from 1940 to 1945, driving supply trucks near the front lines and traveling to England, Paris, Germany, Italy and Holland earning the rank of Lieutenant. From 1954 to 1965, he served and instructed Army cadets in Rosetown, Dundurn and Wainwright. He was chosen twice as a member of the Royal Family Guard in 1958 for the Queen’s sister; Princess Margaret in Prince Albert and in 1959, for the Queen on her visit to Saskatoon. Earl served as President of Herschel Legion Branch 57 in 1961, 1962 and 1971 and became a Life Member. In 1995, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding devotion to the aims and objectives of The Legion. In 2005, he received the 60-year Medal from the Canadian government. Earl passed away on October 27, 2007.
