The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 271 KOLENOVSKY, R. J. WWII R. J. Kolenovsky enlisted in 1941 with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada during World War II. Master Corporal Kolenovsky left the service on October 1, 1975. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. He married and has been a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362. KOSHNEY, Albert WWII Albert came to Gull Lake with his parents in 1927. His father helped to build a number of buildings in Gull Lake, including the Elks Hall. As a youth, Albert was an avid hockey player. He enlisted as a Private on October 6, 1944 and he served with the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment in France where he was killed in action on August 6, 1944 in the battles of Caen and Falaise. His brother Alphonse was only a few miles away with a tank regiment and he ran to his brother when he heard he had been injured. Albert died in his brother’s arms. His father carried a picture of Albert’s grave in his wallet until the day he died. KOZYN, Marcel SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Marcel enlisted in the Army and served with the Saskatchewan Dragoons in Cyprus, Cambodia, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. He was part of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse Ceremonial Music Ride and escorted the Queen for the opening ceremonies of the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia.
