The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 269 KNIPPELBERG, Jacob “Jack” WWII Jack enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served with 428 Ghost Squadron and 6 Bomber Command. He flew 32 operational flights between June and October 1944 and took part in the invasion of France and the bombing at Falaise and Caen. His last operational flight was to Essen in the Ruhr Valley. Jack was decorated five times. KNUDSEN, Clifford Ralph WWI Clifford was born in 1893 in Lake Mills, Iowa, United States. He came to Canada in 1910 at age 17 and worked on farms and ranches. He was drafted into the Canadian Infantry in November 1917 and served in Europe and France where he was wounded in September 1918, suffering machine gun bullets into his right hip. He was discharged from the Lord Darby Wartime Hospital in Warrington, England on October or November 29, 1918. He carried the bullets in his hip for over 50 years while ranching and farming at Bengough/Coronach, Saskatchewan with his wife and family. Clifford was a member of Coronach Legion Branch 268 before he passed away in 1984. KOHALY, Ivan Robert WWII Ivan was born on July 9, 1921 in Fredericton, New Brunswick and he came to Carnduff in 1935. He joined the Army and served overseas with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He participated in the Dieppe Raid in 1943 and was hospitalized before returning to Canada. Ivan was Dominion President, Provincial President and Branch President of Carnduff Legion Branch 216 before he passed away on October 24, 2001 in Vineland, Ontario.
