The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 255 JENKINS, John Anthony WWII John was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on March 1, 1916. He was orphaned at the age of four and re-established in Saskatchewan’s Humboldt area in 1924. He married Verna Loxterkamp of Fulda, Saskatchewan on November 10, 1942 and they had eight children. John enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on January 8, 1943 in Saskatoon. He trained at Esquimalt, British Columbia and was on active duty in Halifax. Throughout his career, he was a Stoker on several ships that escorted oil tankers from South America. By request, his naval career ended on April 12, 1945. After his service, John joined the Humboldt Land Titles Office in 1945 and retired from there in 1981. He passed away on September 14, 1984. He was a member of Legion Branch 28. JESS, Henry J. WWII Henry was born in Chaplin. He joined the Regina Rifle Regiment in June 1940 at the age of 23 and trained in Dundurn, Saskatchewan and at Debert, Nova Scotia before going overseas at the end of August 1941 with three other battalions besides the Regina Rifle Regiment. After landing in Gourock Harbor, Scotland, the regiment was stationed at Aldershot, Steyning, Runfold, Hydenhouse, Haywards Heath, Portsmouth and New Haven. The Regina Rifle Regiment landed in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 under heavy fire. Henry was wounded on August 19, 1944 at Falaise Gap and was sent to a hospital in Whatford, England then later sent to the Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. He later married Olga (Ollie) and they moved to Saskatchewan where he farmed and underwent many operations before his foot was amputated. The Regina Rifle Regiment was honoured and now it is called the Royal Regina Rifle Regiment. Henry has been a member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for twenty-eight years. JOHN, J. H. WWII J. H. John was born on June 26, 1920 in England. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 13, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Northwest Europe. Private John left the service in November 1945. He married and has been a member of Nutana Legion Branch 362.
