The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 253 JACKSON, William Mark Lawrence WWI William was born to William and Jane Jackson of Carnduff, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the Canadian infantry, Saskatchewan Regiment. He was killed in action in France and is buried in the Écoivres Military Cemetery. JACOBSON, Carl Richard WWII Carl was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on December 5, 1925. He enlisted in Vancouver on June 15, 1944 and served with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders in England and Continental Europe, carrying the Piat Gun weighing 34 pounds. The first battle was in Scheldt, Germany near the Hochwould Forest where 214 men were killed on February 26, 1945. In the last five days of the war from May 1 to May 5, 114 men died in battle. After taking part in the liberation of Poland in April, Carl was transferred to the Scottish 3rd Division and served on guard duty for displaced persons in Germany for one year. He received the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. A Medal of remembrance was given in April 2003 in gratitude for the liberation of Holland. Carl returned to farm at Hillside, Saskatchewan. He married, had four children, and currently resides in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He has been a member of North Battleford Legion Branch 70 for fifty years. JEANNOTTE, Joseph J. WWII Joseph joined the Canadian Army during World War II and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment at Dieppe and in Europe. Corporal Jeannotte won a Military Medal for his acts of bravery when during an attack, he set an example of determination to the men in his section by pressing forward to the objective when his Platoon Sergeant was killed. Despite being wounded, he took over the platoon and successfully organized the last stage of attack.
