The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 237 HOLMES, Frank WWII Frank was born in Ochre River, Manitoba in 1914. He enlisted in 1941 and served in Canada, England, France and Germany during World War II. Frank went into France on D-Day as a Corporal with B Company of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and they landed next to the Regina Rifles. They took heavy fire on the beach and only 27 out of the 186 men could continue at the end of the day. They advanced with another Company but were surrounded and captured on the third day. Frank was a prisoner in Stalag 357 at Bad Fallingbostel, north of Hanover until his liberation in 1945. After the war, Frank farmed near Strathclair, Manitoba until he suffered the first of a series of heart attacks in 1958. Later, he was a Commissionaire at Rivers, Manitoba and in Calgary. Frank was a member of Strathclair Legion Branch 154 for about twenty years before he passed away at the Regina General Hospital in 1997. HORN, Charles WWII Charles was born south of Carnduff in 1917. He joined the Army during World War II and served in France, Belgium and Holland with the 3rd Division of the Royal Canadian Artillery. Charles passed away in 1965. HORN, James Richard WWII James was born in Carnduff in 1924. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served in Canada from November 6, 1944 to April 29, 1946.
