The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 233 HOCKLEY, Raymond George WWII Raymond was born in 1916 in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in Regina in 1941 as a Private and trained as an Anti-tank gunner and as a N.C.O. He served in the United Kingdom, the Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe with the Westminster Regiment (Motor) and the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He landed in the United Kingdom on November 26, 1941; in Italy on December 1, 1943; and in Northwest Europe on March 20, 1945. Raymond was promoted to Sergeant on December 29, 1944 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star and the 1939-45 Star. He was a member of Yellow Grass Legion Branch for a number of years before he passed away in 1988. HOCKLEY, Willard Lyle WWII Willard was born in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan on May 14, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and graduated as a pilot, receiving his “Wings”. He was then sent back to Yellow Grass to wait for further instructions as to further employment. In December 1944, he received a telegram to report for discharge as the war was over. He was discharged in January 1945 and he was married a month later on February 16. In the fall of 1946, Willard and his wife went to Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis to prepare for the Ministry. He graduated in 1950 and served the church in the United States for more than 40 years after which they returned to their hometown of Yellow Grass in 1988. Willard died of cancer at the Regina General Hospital on January 4, 2000. He had served as Chaplain at the local Legion Branch in Yellow Grass. HODGSON, Joseph WWI Joseph was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan in 1897. He joined the Army on February 22, 1916 and listed his profession as a farmer. He served in Canada with the 209th Battalion during World War I. He died in Swift Current on March 14, 1916.
