The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 229 HEMSWORTH, James “Jim” WWII Jim was born in 1917 in Outlook where he spent the first decade of his life with his father working there as a merchant. In 1925, the family moved to Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. With war declared, James and his brothers, Merle and Earl, enlisted; James with the 38 RAF Squadron and his brothers with the Navy. On April 6, 1944, while on a mission over the Aegean Sea near Greece, his plane was shot down and James was killed in action. His grave is at Alamein Memorial in Egypt. HENRY, Wilfred WWII Wilfrid came from Humboldt, Saskatchewan and was in military service from January 1942 to January 1946. He was a Private in the 3rd Division, Regina Rifle Regiment and the Highland Light Infantry of Canada, serving in Europe. Wilfred was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. HERAUF, Jacob Anton WWII Jacob was born in 1918 in Davin, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 3, 1941 and took some training in Aero engine mechanics before transferring to St. Thomas, Ontario for further classes. After examinations and proficiency tests, he was rewarded with his Corporal stripes. He was then on his way to England where he was stationed at Northallerton and Linton in Yorkshire County. He remained in England until the announcement of his return to Canada. Jacob flew back and landed in Gander, Newfoundland and caught another flight to Regina. He was dismissed soon after and joined his brother Simon in farming in Davidson in 1946 where his bride-to-be joined him in February 1947. They were married in April 1947 and lived in Davidson for 52 years until his passing on January 6, 1999. Jacob was a member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for twenty-eight years.
