The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 221 HANCOCK, Noel Harvey KOREA Noel was born on August 24, 1931 and grew up in the Glenn Adelaide district, south of Wawota. As a young man, he worked on the family farm (Beckton Ranch) until he joined the Army in November 1951 and trained at RCE base in Chilliwack, British Columbia. He went to Korea in July 1952 to 3 Troop, 23rd Field Squadron. He was wounded in action on October 31, 1952. After returning home in November 1954, Noel resumed farming until he moved to Arcola in 1962 and began working for the Department of Highways. Noel’s heart remained with the farm and while being employed at other jobs, he always kept cattle and enjoyed working with other farmers in the community. He was a member of Arcola Legion Branch for over thirty-five years before he passed away on May 23, 2004 following a brief struggle with cancer. HARTLEY, Gordon WWII Gordon joined the Army during World War II and served in Britain, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade. He was the wireless operator on duty when he received his unit’s cease-fire message in 1945. HAWTHORNE, Harvey WWII Harvey enlisted in the Army in Medicine Hat on January 28, 1941 and served in Canada and Europe with the South Alberta Regiment, 4th Division. He was discharged in 1945.
