The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 217 GRIFFIN, Donald Frederick WWII Donald was born on June 25, 1925 in Rock Glen, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army during World War II and served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in France, Holland and Germany. Donald was awarded the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Legion Branch 17 for a number of years before passing away on March 31, 2005. GRIFFITH, Melvin James WWII Melvin was born on July 7, 1926 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army on November 3, 1944 and served in Canada until his discharge on April 30, 1946 after which he returned to the family farm and married his high school sweetheart. He raised a family of three and celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in July 2013. Melvin has been a member of Norquay Legion Branch 351 for twenty-two years. HAGAN, Leonard Whitford WWII Leonard was born in Elbow, Saskatchewan in 1917. He joined the Army and served with the 60th Coast Battery. He was trained as a gunner, was posted to Victoria, British Columbia and then was sent overseas for the liberation of Holland. During the war, Leonard married Mabel Brosch with whom he had a son while posted in British Columbia. After serving with the Regina Rifles, Leonard was discharged and moved with Mabel to Craik, Saskatchewan where he farmed. They had three daughters and another son to complete the family. A move to Davidson occurred in 1960 where Leonard worked as a mechanic until his retirement. Leonard was a member of Legion Branches 10 and 51 for a total of twenty-five years before he passed away in 1986.
