The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 215 GOSLING, Henry William WWII Henry was born in 1921 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in October 1941 in Saskatoon and served in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe with the Royal Canadian Postal Corps during World War II. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Upon his return to civilian life, Henry briefly worked in various fields such as carpentry and as a farm labourer until he became an employee of the Rosthern Post Office. In 1959, he was appointed Postmaster and served in this capacity until his retirement in January 1983. He received a Medal from the Federal Government for “long and efficient service”. Harry played many sports including as a defenseman for the Rosthern Wheat King Hockey team and coached minor hockey and ball. He was also a member of Rosthern Legion Branch 115 for fifty-five years before he passed away in 2002. GREGOR, Carl Gerhart WWII Carl was born on July 12, 1914 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. In the spring of 1921, he moved to Davidson and farmed with his parents. When the Second World War broke out, he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery in November 1941 where he spent four years, three of them in England. In October 1942, before being shipped overseas, he married Ruth Nixon. Carl returned to Regina on December 19, 1945 and was discharged in January 1946. Upon his return home, he bought a farm southwest of Girvan where he farmed then Carl and Ruth moved to Davidson in 1979. Together, they raise two children. Carl was an active member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 for more than fifty years until his passing on December 19, 2006. GREGOR, Ernest Daniel “Ernie” WWII Ernie was born on April 12, 1916 in Edgely, Saskatchewan. He moved to Davidson in the spring of 1921 and farmed with his parents. When the Second World War broke out, he joined and was a Private in Company A in the Canadian Scottish Regiment in the Second Brigade of the 3rd Division. Ernie was in the Rocky Mountain Ranger Infantry and served in Belgium and Holland. He was wounded in action and returned to Canada on a hospital ship in April 1945 then was discharged on May 20, 1945. Ernie bought a farm east of Davidson, married Jeanette Hildebrandt and together, they’re raised one daughter. Ernie was a member of Davidson Legion Branch 51 until he passed away on September 30, 2001.
