The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 435 WHITE (nee WOOLEY), Edna WWII Edna was born on June 30, 1922 in Meacham, SK and grew up on the family farm east of there. She attended elementary school at York, then high school at Meacham before joining the Army and serving in Canada as a stenographer with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Edna married Clarence White and raised five children. Currently, she is living in Saskatoon. Edna and her sister, Joyce, both signed up in Saskatoon and their cousin, Joe Fleming, also enlisted. WHITEHEAD, Harold WWII Harold was born on July 17, 1922 in Plunkett, Saskatchewan and he took his schooling at the Lucasville country school. He joined the Army in February 1942 and served in Canada as a PA volunteer with the 3rd Irish Battalion. He was discharged in 1945. Harold was married in 1943 to Margaret Schlachter and they raised three children. He farmed all his life except for the years he spent in the military service. Harold curled when he was younger and in retirement, enjoyed puzzles and watching sports. In 2010, he retired to Humboldt. Harold passed away on March 12, 2012. WIGNES, Norman Peter WWII Norman was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan on March 3, 1918. He enlisted in 1942 with the Rocky Mountain Rangers and trained in Banff, Alberta. He served at Kiska Island in the Aleutian Islands and was later re-assigned to the Calgary Highlanders, serving in England, France, Holland and Belgium. After being wounded twice during his time of service, he served six more months in the Provost Corps in Germany at the end of the war until his discharge in 1946. Norman became a carpenter upon returning home and lived in the Glynfield, SK area. He raised four children with his wife, Beryl McCallum, and began his life’s work of carpentry in Saskatoon, SK. He was a member of RCL Saskatoon TVS # 78. Norman died on January 16, 2007.
