The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 429 WAGNER, Walter Maxwell “Mac” WWII Mac was born in Craik, SK on March 8, 1920. He was educated at Viscount and excelled at hockey as a youth. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 and served in Canada and overseas. He trained at the Aeronautic School at Tech in Saskatoon before going to Toronto and serving at several stations in Ontario. Sent overseas in 1945, he was in England just a few months before peace was signed and he came home. His cousins, Rodger and Glen Wagner, also enlisted but served in peacetime. After his discharge, Mac went to Luseland, where his father and family had moved and he was in the Home Hardware and furniture business there until he retired. Mac married Evelyn Sexsmith from Viscount, and they had three children. WALKER, Robert Hayes “Pat” WWII Pat was born on November 23, 1911 and was raised on a farm in the Colonsay, SK district. After attending school at Nicklet, he worked in northern Alberta with a fish freighting company and at a sawmill in northern Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in 1940 and served as a Sergeant in Sicily, Italy, France, England, Germany, Africa, and Holland. He was awarded three Campaign Stars and the Canadian Service Volunteer Medal. He had married Jean Neish from Viscount, SK and had one daughter before going overseas. Four more children were born after his discharge in 1945. Pat farmed for a time and then worked for the Wheat Pool construction company for seventeen years. They retired to Colonsay where he was a Life Member of Colonsay Legion Branch 345. He died in October 1992. WALLIN, George WWII George was born in Colonsay, SK and went to school there. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and became a decoder on the Corvette HMCS Humberstone, doing convoy duty between Newfoundland and the British Isles from 1941 to 1945. After his discharge, George and his brother, Ralph, went to work in the mines in Kimberley, BC. George stayed and married Florence Lindquist and they raised three children. George retired and remained in Kimberley.
