The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 427 WAGNER, John WWII John farmed north of Viscount, Saskatchewan and married while there. He joined the Army and served as a Private during World War II. After his discharge, he moved to farm in Ontario’s tobacco country. WAGNER, Rodger Neil “Rod” PEACETIME Rod was born on January 1, 1933 in Viscount, SK where he attended school until he turned eighteen. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 28, 1952 in Saskatoon, SK and did his basic training in St. Jean, Quebec and his tech training at Camp Borden, Ontario. He was a pilot instructor and became a service technician electronics engineer, serving at several locations in Canada, France and Egypt. On November 27, 1972, he retired from the service and moved to Calgary, AB where he worked for a number of engineering firms. He was married and had eight children. Rod and his brother, Glen, both enlisted and served in peacetime. WAGNER, Walter Gustus “Walt” WWI Walt was born on May 11, 1895 in Leonard, North Dakota, USA and his family came to Craik, Saskatchewan in 1906. He joined the Army on October 12, 1917 in Regina, SK and served in World War I. A tinsmith by trade, he and his brother, Richard, and his friend, Jack Hill, came to Viscount, Saskatchewan in 1922 where they bought the hardware store. He did tinsmithing and furnace work also. Walter loved to curl and was an active Elk and charter member of the Lodge. He was forced to retire from the business in 1963 due to ill health and died on May 31, 1965. Walt married Johanna Arnold and had four children. His sons, Rodger and Glen, enlisted in peacetime and his nephew, Mac, enlisted in WWII.
