The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 421 VANHOUWE, Henry Ernest “Van” WWII Van was born on June 3, 1918 in Semans, Saskatchewan. He attended school at Viscount and Plunkett and worked on the farm before he enlisted and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. His brother, Andy, also enlisted. After his discharge, Van farmed and then worked at the Lodestar Mine near Plunkett. He also worked in the oil fields and on road construction before retiring in Saskatoon. He married Evelyn Mills with whom he had two children and later married Elsie (Gerling) Bruce. They spent many winters in Victoria and summers at Turtle Lake, SK. Van enjoyed boating, fishing and visiting and he died on March 17, 2003. VANHOUWE, Irene WWII Irene was born and grew up on a farm northeast of Plunkett, Saskatchewan where she also attended school. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and was a cousin to Henry and Andy Vanhouwe, who also enlisted. She lived in Regina and had one daughter, Lynn Csada. Irene died in the 1950s. VEITCH, George WWII George, whose father’s name was Andrew, was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan and took his schooling at the Lucasville country school. He joined the Army and served in World War II. George married, had one child, and farmed all of his life west of Saskatoon, SK.
