The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 413 THOMAS, George Edwin WWI George was born to William and Bedelia Thomas. He joined the Army and served overseas as a Private with the 46th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment in World War I. He was killed in action on June 5, 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial located at Pas de Calais, France. George is listed in the March 2, 1917 edition of The Viscount Sunas one of the men from the Viscount District who enlisted. THOMAS, William “Bill” WWI Bill was born in England but came to Canada in 1908 with his father William Sr. and his uncles, Charles, Sidney, Frank and his Aunt Flo. They all homesteaded around Bruno, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Army in 1914 and saw overseas duty with the 28th Battalion. After his discharge in 1918, he settled in Saskatoon and married Matilda Hartwigsen with whom he had two children. Bill joined the Canadian Pacific Railway Express and worked for them for forty-five years. He passed away in 1977. TIMMERMAN, Lloyd Ross WWII Lloyd was born in 1917 in Viscount, SK where he also went to school and helped on the family farm growing up. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 4, 1941 and served as a Sergeant in Canada and England. He went overseas with the first group of Canadians to work with radar, a new weapon of defense. Initially attached with the RAF, he later served with the RCAF. Discharged on August 17, 1945, he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After his discharge, he farmed with his brother, Baron, for a number of years and married Eileen Colhoun with whom he raised three children. The family moved to Fort St. John, BC in 1962. Lloyd was a member of Viscount Branch 271.
