The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 385 SIMES, Lawrence WWII Lawrence was born in 1921 in Chandra, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a signalman from 1942-1946 in Canada, Hong Kong, Belfast, Malta, Suez Canal, England, Ceylon, Colombo, and Alexandria. After his discharge, he was a grain buyer for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Lawrence, married with 3 children, was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for forty-five years. He died in 1991 and is buried in Quill Lake Cemetery. SKINNER, Thomas Harvey WWI Thomas was born in Weirton, Ontario on July 4, 1891 and had homesteaded in the Plunkett, Saskatchewan area. His sister, Mrs. Alex Elliott, was living at Eigenheim, SK (south of Viscount). He joined the Army on March 27, 1916 in Watrous, SK and served in France as a Lance Corporal with 5th Battalion Saskatchewan Regiment. He was killed in action on October 1, 1918 in Somme, France. Thomas is buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, near Pas de Calais, France. SMEARS, Reginald Cecil “Reg” WWI Reg was born in Chelsea, London, England on April 24, 1888. He joined the Army on April 16, 1916 in Melfort, Saskatchewan and served overseas during World War I. He is listed as single on his enlistment papers and his father, John Alexander Smears of England, is listed as his next of kin. Before enlisting, he was a telephone linesman. Reg is listed in the March 2, 1917 edition of The Viscount Sun as one of the men from the Viscount District to have enlisted.
