The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 379 SEXSMITH, Arthur “Art” WWII Art was born in Viscount, SK and went to school there before taking a business course at Tech in Saskatoon, SK. He. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942 and was involved in radar electronics, serving on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He was at sea at the time of the Armistice and the military became his career. He married Mary Graham in 1952 and raised one son. Art was commissioned in 1955 and gained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1961. Retired from the Navy in 1973, he settled near Fredericton, NB and was employed in the Engineering Department of the University of New Brunswick until 1979. Art died in May 1981. His uncle, Frank Radcliff, also saw military service. SHERIDAN, Dr. Philip Alexander WWII Dr. Sheridan was born in Meacham, Saskatchewan on April 26, 1925. He obtained a Pharmacy degree, a Masters in Hospital Administration, a Medical degree and finally, his specialty, Radiology, which he practiced in Edmonton, SK until he retired in 1993. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II. He married Dorothy and they had four children. Dr. Sheridan passed away on March 14, 2006. SHIRLEY (nee CLAVELLE), Marguerite WWII Marguerite was born in Plunkett, SK in 1924. She joined the Army and served in Canada during World War II. After her discharge in 1946, she worked in Vancouver, BC for a time then went to Honduras to work at the United Fruit Co. While there, she married Walter Shirley and they moved to the United States, first to Mississippi and then to Georgia. They raised five children. Walter died and Marguerite worked as a secretary in a law firm until her retirement. She still lives in Georgia.
