The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 371 SCHLACHTER, John WWII John was born to Pete and Liz Schlachter in Plunkett, Saskatchewan. He farmed north of Plunkett and never married. John joined the Army and served in Canada but he had pneumonia while in the service and suffered a collapsed lung. He was given a medical discharge in 1943 and put on pension. John lived and died in Saskatoon, SK. SCHUMAKER, Art WWII Art was born in Young, Saskatchewan and he took his schooling at the Farina country school, south of Plunkett, SK. Art and his five brothers enlisted for WWII, Art serving overseas with the Army. He and his brother, Egon, lived and worked in Alberta and he has since died. Art never married. SCHUMAKER, Carl WWII Carl was born in Young, SK and he went to school at Farina and worked on the farm as a youth. Carl and his five brothers, Art, Jake, Egon, Rinhold and Otto, all enlisted in WWII, Carl serving overseas in the Army. Otto’s surname is spelled ‘Shoemaker’. Carl raised four children with his wife, Ethel, and he became a Baptist minister who mainly served areas in BC and later in the States. He did a stint of missionary work in Africa and has since passed away.
