The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 369 SAUNDERS, Charles Frederick WWI Charles was born on September 12, 1889 in New York City, NY, USA. Prior to enlisting, he was living in Regina, SK with his wife, Margaret, and had been working as a waiter and an electrician. He joined the Army in Regina on March 24, 1916 and served in World War I. He has since passed away. SAVAGE, Ward Leslie BOER WAR Ward was born on August 2, 1880 in the Shefford district of Quebec. After growing up in that area, he served in Africa during the Boer War, after which he applied for South African Script land. In 1906, he filed on his homestead in the Saxby area, southeast of Meacham, Saskatchewan, and arrived there from Lennoxville, Quebec with his bride of one month, Florence ‘Geraldine’ Rosher. They raised three children. In addition to farming, they had the Saxby Post Office and a general store for a number of years. Ward was a charter member of the Viscount B.P.O. Elks #161. He died on August 15, 1941. SCHAFER, E. J. WWI E. J. served as a Private with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion in WWI. He was killed in action on September 28, 1916 in France and is listed as one of the men from the Viscount District who joined the Army to fight in World War I, as found in the March 2, 1917 edition of The Viscount Sun. E.L. is buried in Serre Road Cemetery No. 2 in Somme, France.
