The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 361 ROPER, Reginald William “Reg” WWII Reg was born in Coventry, England and came to Plunkett, Saskatchewan with his family in 1926. He helped his dad farm until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and then served overseas. After his discharge in 1945, he moved to Saskatoon where he worked first at Quaker Oats, then at Palm Dairies, and finally at Co-op Dairy Producers where he stayed eighteen years. Reg married Margaret Ryan and they raised six children. He retired in 1983 and alternates his time between Turtle Lake and Saskatoon. Reg’s brothers, Jim, Ernest and Bert, also enlisted and served in World War II. ROPER, Ronald “Ron” WWII Ron was born in Coventry, England and came to Canada with his family on June 27, 1927. The family took up farming close to Plunkett, SK where he worked until his enlistment. Ron had gone to school in Coventry before moving to Canada, and then he went to Clover Bar near Plunkett. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II and his brother, Tom, also enlisted as did his first cousins Reg, Bert, Ernest and Jim Roper. After the war, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Lethbridge, Alberta and later was a welder. He married and had four children. Ron died in March 1981. ROPER, Thomas “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Salisbury, England and came to Canada with his family on June 27, 1927. They started farming on NW 20-34-24W2, near Plunkett, SK. His trade in England was that of a painter and decorator. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served in World War II. His brother, Ron enlisted too as did his first cousins, Jim, Bert, Ernest and Reg Roper. Tom was overseas for five years, married while there, and resumed his trade in Crystal Beach, Ontario after returning to Canada. He also worked at the Fleet Aircraft Factory as a painter for thirteen years. Tom raised three children and he passed away in 1962.
