The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 349 RAUCKMAN, John Frank WWII John was born on July 29, 1926 in Viscount, SK but he went to school at Long Beach, California. John and his brother, Bill, were both drafted into the US Military, John serving as a Staff Sergeant with the 96th Infantry in the Asia Pacific from September 1944. Discharged in September 1947, he received the Purple Heart with Clusters and the Silver Star. John returned to Canada where he met and married Joy Wagner and they raised five children. They farmed for eight years in Viscount then moved to Lakewood, California where he worked as a machinist. They came back to Viscount to farm and he also worked at Central Canada Potash before retiring. They moved to Saskatoon, SK and Red Deer, AB and then he passed away on December 12, 2008. John was a lifelong member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. RAUCKMAN, William John “Bill” WWII Bill was born on November 3, 1920 in Saskatoon, SK. He went to school in Viscount, SK and Long Beach, California where he also took a two-year pre-engineering course at Long Beach Polytechnic and played semi pro hockey. Bill and his brother, John, were both drafted into the US military, Bill serving from May 1944 as a Gunner’s Mate with the Merchant Navy under the Armed Guard Unit, a gun crew on Merchant ships traveling in convoy through the Atlantic and Pacific theatres of war. He married Marjorie Keife in 1942 and returned from Japan in 1946, before his discharge. Bill had a mixed farm in the Viscount area after his return to Canada and was involved in community affairs such as the Masons, 4-H, and bingo calling. They retired to Calgary, Alberta and Bill has since passed away. RAYMOND, Raymond WWI Raymond was born in L’Annonciation, Quebec. On June 24, 1909, he came with his parents, Isaac and Marie Raymond, to homestead in Saskatchewan’s Viscount area and he finished his schooling at Golden Hill School. In 1912, he applied for his own homestead in the Badger school district and he married Laura Dumontier in 1920 in Viscount. Raymond served in World War I.
