The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 347 RADLIFF, Frank WWII Frank was born in Elm Creek, Manitoba. He spent some time working around in Saskatchewan’s Viscount District before his enlistment. He served in World War II and his nephew, Arthur Sexsmith, also enlisted. RAE, Ernest “Ernie” WWII Ernie was born in 1918 in Plunkett, SK. He lived and worked on the farms that his parents had bought and moved to over the years and he went to school at Millerdale, Kerrobert, Edam and Prince. Ernie and his brother, George, both joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. After his discharge, he tried a few jobs and became a sheet metal worker in Saskatoon, SK. He retired and is raising rainbow trout for a hobby. He is secretary-treasurer of Northern Saskatchewan Rainbow Trout Farmers Association. Ernie married Hillary while overseas and they had three children. RAE, George Arthur WWII George was born in 1920 to Hugh Franklin and Edith Rae who homesteaded northeast of Plunkett, SK. He went to school at Millerdale, Kerrobert, Edam and Prince. George and his brother, Ernie, both joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, George serving as a Pilot Officer with the No. 49 Squadron, RAF Bomb Aimer. He was killed in action on July 8, 1944 over Creil, France when his Lancaster was hit by flak and exploded during a raid on Creil. George is buried at Le Chesne Communal Cemetery, southeast of Conches, Eure, France. He left a wife, Mary M. (Peet), and a son, Douglas, at Gilmorton, Leicestershire, England. There is a geomemorial named in his honour: Rae Bay, in Webb Lake, SK, at (74N10) 59o 38’ 108o 49’.
