The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 345 POWELL, George William WWII George was born in Aylesbury, SK. He was a bartender at the Viscount Hotel before enlisting on March 3, 1941 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served as a Flying Officer in Canada, England, Africa, Malta and the Middle East. Discharged on March 20, 1945, he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the African Star and Clasp and the RCAF Ops Wings. He returned to work at the Viscount Hotel then married Nellie Forman, with whom he had two children. He was with the Viscount Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1945-46 and was instrumental in organizing the Viscount Legion Branch271. Shortly after that, George and his family left for the mines in Ontario and he is now retired in Elliott Lake, ON where he golfs and is involved in community work. He is a member of the Viscount Legion Branch 271. RAAFLAUB (nee WOOLLEY), Joyce Irene WWII Joyce was born on June 16, 1921 in Meacham, SK and went to school at York and Meacham. She lived on the farm before enlisting in Saskatoon along with her sister, Edna, and their cousin, Joe Fleming. Joyce joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and served in Canada as a stenographer. With her husband, Harvey Raaflaub, she raised five children and they ran a grocery business in Bracebridge, Ontario. They still reside there. Joyce and her cousin, Joe Fleming, married people from the same town in Ontario where they stayed to raise their families. RACHINSKI, Anton WWI Anton was born in Canada in 1880 and lived in Clair, Saskatchewan. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and served in Canada and overseas during World War I. Anton married, had children, and died in 1971. He is buried in Clair Cemetery.
