The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 343 POTTER, William McLellan WWI William was born on August 17, 1873 in Halifax, NS. Prior to his enlistment, he had been a journalist working in London, England and he was single. His father, James S. Potter, was listed as next of kin, living in Ottawa, Ontario. William joined the Army on April 29, 1918 in Witley, Surrey, and served overseas as a captain. Previously, he had also been with the 96th Canadian Highlanders for 6 months and the 212th Battalion for 6 months. He also served with the 249th Battalion for 1 year. POTTS, George WWI George joined the Army and served in World War I. George farmed in Saskatchewan’s Viscount District and he was a councillor for the Rural Municipality from1919-1922. POTTS, Harvey John WWII Harvey was born on January 3, 1919 in Plumas, Manitoba. His father was a station agent so the family moved a lot. He took most of his schooling at Melfort and finished at Meacham. Harvey was taking a calligrapher course with the Canadian National Railway before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941and training as a Wireless Air Gunner. He served as a Flying Officer with the British, Canadian and Australian Air Forces and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the African Star. After his discharge in 1945, he became a station agent and worked at various points in Saskatchewan. He raised two daughters with his wife, Fern Stensrud, and he enjoyed hockey, baseball, golf and weekends at the cabin. Harvey has been a member of Saskatoon Legion Branch 363 for more than fifty years. He was living at Sherbrooke Nursing Home in Saskatoon at the time of his death on December 17, 2012.
