The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 341 PONGRACZ, Joseph “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan. He attended school there and later worked with his brothers, Mike and Frank, pasturing horses and cattle. He joined the Army and served in World War II. His brothers, Frank, Mike and Jim, also enlisted. After the war, he married Josephine Windish and they raised four children. They first farmed in the Arrin district then later moved to Hubbard where the family stayed while Joe worked for the railway in Gimli, Manitoba. Their last move was to Regina, SK. PONGRACZ, Michael “Mike” WWII Mike was born in Plunkett, Saskatchewan. He attended school there and when he got older, worked on farms around the area. He joined the Army and served overseas in World War II. Mike’s three brothers Joe, Frank and Jim, also enlisted. After the war, he came back and lived in Ottawa, ON where he sold insurance. He and his wife moved to Barry, ON then later to Riverside, California where he continued to sell insurance. PORCHET, Emile Henri WWI Emile was born on September 29, 1875 in Neuchatel, Switzerland where he served in the Infantry of the Swiss Army before immigrating to Canada in 1910. He worked in Ontario then came to Saskatchewan to homestead in the Prince Albert area. A year later, his wife Lucy (Sezley) and three children (a fourth was born in Canada) arrived. He joined the Army on June 30, 1916 and served with the Royal 22nd Regiment overseas where he was wounded in action in France. After his discharge in April 1919, Emile returned to Prince Albert and worked on the La Colle Falls hydroelectric dam. From the early 1920s, he farmed on Soldier Settlement land north of Prince Albert in the Elk Range school district until he died in 1948. He was a member of Prince Albert Legion Branch 2.
