The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 317 OLSON, Norman O. WWII Norman was born in Stephen, Minnesota, USA in 1920. He joined the Canadian Army and served in the 3rd Division Infantry in Canada, England, France, Belgium, and Holland. He landed in France on D-Day and was seriously wounded. Norman married, had two children, and was a member of Quill Lake Legion Branch 37 for sixty years before he died in 2006. Norman is buried in Quill Lake Cemetery. OLSON, Ole Lohre WWII Ole was born in Norway and came to Canada in 1907. He worked for various farmers in the Viscount District of Saskatchewan before marrying Marcile Hanson in 1930. They raised three children. He also farmed in Meacham, SK. Ole joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force in 1942 and was stationed in Toronto, ON. He served in Canada as a Leading Aircraftsman and was discharged in 1945. He then returned to Viscount where he was caretaker of the skating rink and later, caretaker of the High School until he retired in 1965. An avid bingo player, he also loved golfing and fishing. Ole was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 and he died on April 23, 1982. ORTT, William Thomas “Bill” WWI Bill was born in London, England on May 18, 1885. He joined the Army on Dec 28, 1914 and served overseas where he was wounded twice. His father, William S. Ortt, was a farmer in the Ruthilda area of Saskatchewan. Bill was single when he enlisted to serve in World War I.
