The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 291 MORPHY, Russell WWII Russell was born in Saltcoats, SK. He joined the Army and spent five years in the army reserve in Germany. Russell and his two brothers, Jim and John, all enlisted, as did his cousins, George and Bill. After his discharge, Russell worked in Hope, BC and was en route to the Mascot Mines as a mechanic when he was killed in a snow slide in March 1972. MORPHY, William Briggs “Bill” WWII Bill was born on December 26, 1920 in Viscount, SK and went to school there. He attended Saskatoon Technical School in aeronautical engineering and then signed up on July 22, 1940 with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a flight engineer, serving in Canada, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. He was discharged on January 9, 1945, after which he worked in Manitoba as a linotype operator at the Winnipeg Free Press. After working at The Province in Vancouver, BC, he purchased The Viscount Sunand continued on in his printer father’s footsteps. Bill was married to Kay Juyn and was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. He died on January 4, 1982. MORRIS, James WWI James was born in Hastings, Ontario. He joined the Army on April 7, 1916 and served with the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division M.T. in Canada, England and France. He was discharged in May 1919 and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. With his wife, Martha Danielson, James farmed in the Viscount area all his life and he was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271. His nephew, Murney Morris, also enlisted in WWII.
