The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 289 MORPHY, George WWII George was born in Viscount, Saskatchewan and he went to school there. He joined the Army and served in World War II. His brother, Bill, also enlisted. George raised four children with his wife, Dorothy, and resided in Sudbury, Ontario. MORPHY, James A. “Jim” WWII Jim was born in Saltcoats, SK in 1917 and took his schooling at Auckland School, north of Viscount. He worked for area farmers and in Manitoba before he joined the Army in 1939 and served in France. Jim and his brothers, John and Russell, all enlisted (Russell was conscripted) and their first cousins, Bill and George Morphy, also enlisted. When Jim retired, he made his home in Clearbrook, BC with his wife, Anna. MORPHY, John Nelson “Jack” WWII Jack was born in Saltcoats, SK in 1918 and went to school at Pilot Grove and Auckland, north of Viscount. He is the son of James Alfred and Alwilda T. Morphy who came to farm in the Brithdir district (north of Plunkett, SK) in 1929. He joined the Army and served as a Trooper in North Africa and Italy with the 8th Princess Louise’s (New Brunswick) Hussars. It was after he was transferred to Italy as a tank driver that he was wounded and died on September 6, 1944. Jack is buried at Montecchio War Cemetery, Montelabbate, Pesaro, Italy. A geo-memorial in Saskatchewan is named in his honour: Morphy Lake, northeast of La Loche, at (74C15) 56o 50’ 108o 54’. His brothers, James and Russell, also enlisted.
