The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 261 MATTHEWS, Lorne WWII Lorne lived with his family in Viscount, Saskatchewan where they ran the pool hall and the barbershop. He joined the Army and served in World War II. After his discharge, he worked at the hospital in North Battleford, SK until he retired. McCONKEY, Thomas WWI Thomas was born in Ireland and he immigrated to Viscount, SK with his family in 1909. He farmed with his dad in the Lonsdale area north of Viscount and was educated there before going on to become a teacher. He joined the Army and served during World War I. Thomas married Ellen Wilmot and they later moved to Richmond, BC. McGILL, Roderick James “Rod” WWII Rod was born in Wainwright, AB in 1910. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served as a Flight Lieutenant and a Wireless Operator with the Campaign Air Force Operation, RCAF Bomber Command in England. He was discharged on September 13, 1945 and was awarded the Wireless Air Gunner Badge, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf, the RCAF Operational Wing and the 1939-45 Star. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 and was also a member of the Rosetown and Weyburn Branches. Rod has been a Legion past president, past sec/treasurer, past officer medal, and past vice president. He was a Canadian Pacific Railway agent at Viscount for a while.
