The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 253 MARCOUX, Grant Joseph WWII Grant was born on February 22, 1920 in Viscount, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in July 1940, obtained his pilot wings and served as a Flight Lieutenant in Canada, Newfoundland and on the North Atlantic coast. He was also a flying instructor for two years at the Service Flying School then flew Cansos (Catalina Flying Boats) over the North Atlantic from Torbay, NL. Discharged in August 1945, he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star, and the War Medal 1939-45. Grant farmed his entire life except for his war years. At one time, there was a milking herd of sixty Holstein cows. He raised twelve children with his wife, Beth Chamney. He died on June 2, 2008. He was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 for fifty-one years. MARK, Robert “Bob” WWII Bob was born on August 13, 1921 in Young, SK and was raised on the family farm. He joined the Army on June 17, 1941 in Saskatoon, SK and served as a Corporal with the 5th Armoured Division of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in the UK and the Central Mediterranean area. After his discharge on March 16, 1946, he brought home an English bride but she returned home. Robert married Elaine Miller and they had several children. He was a carpenter by trade and built several homes in the Watrous, SK area. He retired in Watrous and passed away at Manitou Lodge on January 18, 2007. MARKLEY, David WWI David was born on April 15, 1883 in Halifax, NS. He was a bookkeeper by trade prior to enlisting in Lanigan, SK on March 25, 1916 and had also served with the 66th Battalion of the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Halifax. David married Katherine Hare from Halifax then homesteaded in the Badger, SK district in 1909. Six months later, Katherine and their firstborn came west. They raised seven children. His two sons, Lyall and John, enlisted in WWII. David died in 1926 and is buried in the Viscount Cemetery in Saskatchewan.
