The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 239 LEYH, Hillary Herbert “Herb” WWI Herb was born on July 26, 1894 in Yale, South Dakota, USA. He came to Canada with his dad and two brothers in 1906 to homestead west of Plunkett, SK while the rest of the family came later. He grew up on the farm and went to Easterlea School. In April 1917, Herb joined the Army in Regina and he served with the Mounted Police in the Aleutian Islands, Vladivostok in Siberia. After his discharge on May 15, 1918, he married Jen Dier and they raised three children while farming in Plunkett. His brother, Mike, also enlisted in WWI and his son, Doug, enlisted in WWII. Herb was a member of Viscount Legion Branch 271 and he died on April 12, 1990. LEYH, Odin Wayne “Mike” WWI Mike was born on October 31, 1896 in Cavour, South Dakota, USA. He grew up on the family farm and attended Easterlea School. He and his brother, Herb, both enlisted, with Mike joining the Army in Regina, SK on October 12, 1917. He served in England and sailed home on the RMS Aquitania, the first trip with returning soldiers. His nephew, Doug Leigh, also sailed home on the same ship after World War II. With his wife, Helen Sutherland, Mike raised one son and he farmed all his life. He was active in the community, serving on the Badger School Board and as councillor for the Rural Municipality of Wolverine for several years. LIDDELL (nee LANGSTON), Enid WWII Enid was born in Plunkett, SK and went to school there. Her brothers, Reg and Jim, enlisted in the Army and Enid joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service. After her discharge, she obtained her teaching certificate and taught at Meeting Lake where she married Len Liddell. They raised three children. Enid is in Edmonton, Alberta.
