The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 219 KOOB, Phillip “Phil” WWII Phillip was born on December 14, 1916 in Meacham, SK. Phil grew up in the Lucasville district and went to school in the area. He joined the Army in 1940 and served as a Lance Corporal and a firearms and driver instructor with the Edmonton Fusiliers on Vancouver Island. Discharged in 1944, he married Irene Kiss and they raised one child. Phil was an elevator agent for a time then was in the plumbing business in Saskatoon until he retired. He passed away at the Meadow Green Care Home in Saskatoon on October 20, 2009. KOROLCHUK, Tony WWII Tony was born in 1921 in Clair, Saskatchewan. He served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England, Holland, and Germany during World War II. Tony married, farmed and was buried in Quill Lake Cemetery after his death in 2001. KOSTENKO, Nicholas WWII Nicholas was born in 1923 in Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a telegraphist on HMCS Ottawa on the North Atlantic Ocean where he was killed as a result of a torpedo attack in 1942. Nicholas was 19 years old.
