The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 205 KISH (KISS), Joseph “Joe” WWII Joe was born to John and Rosalia Kiss and he is a cousin to the four Kiss brothers, who lived south of Plunkett, SK. There is some confusion as to the spelling of the surname, as both Kiss and Kish have been used. He lived on the family farm, north of Viscount, SK in the Easterlea area. Joe, with his wife Josephine and the family, later moved to Asquith, SK. He was an elevator agent at Sclanders after the war, eventually moving to Saskatoon. Joe’s sister, Irene, married Phil Koob, who was also in the services. Joe served in the Army during World War II. KISS, Gasper Lloyd “Gordon” WWII Gordon was born on October 14, 1919 in Plunkett, SK. He grew up on the farm and attended Golden Hill School until the family moved to Hamilton, ON. Gordon played ball as a youth and he continued to do so in the Army and later on in life. He joined the Army on July 9, 1940 and served in Newfoundland, Continental Europe and the United Kingdom. He was discharged on November 28, 1945. Gordon’s brothers, Julius, Louis and Joe, all enlisted in London, ON. After the war, Gordon stayed in Newfoundland and married Mary Glynn, with whom he raised four children. He was inducted into the Newfoundland Softball Hall of Fame in St. John’s. Gordon died on August 9, 1975. KISS, Joseph Steven “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Plunkett, SK on March 19, 1922. His early education began at Golden Hill School south of Plunkett, then the family moved to Hamilton, ON where he finished school and enlisted there. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served overseas on two ships, HMCS Iroquois and HMCS Haida. After the war, he came back to Hamilton for employment and was with Ontario Hydro in Kingsville until his retirement. Joe raised one daughter with his wife, Arlene Quick, and the family still lives in Kingsville. Joe died on July 7, 1985.
