The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 203 KING, Ed H. WWI Ed lived and worked in Viscount, SK before enlisting in the Army and serving in World War I. He was the first agent for Imperial Oil in 1913 in Viscount. KIRKWOOD, Leslie “Les” WWII Leslie was born in 1916 in the Viscount, SK area. He farmed before enlisting in the Army in 1941 and serving in England, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He landed at Liverpool, England in June 1942 then joined the 7th and 11th Hussars Regiment, the Brigade Headquarters of the Fifth Armoured Division in Aldershot, England, where he trained to become a tank driver. He was moved to Crowborough in Kent, and in November 1943, shipped out with the Fifth Division to Naples, Italy for 18 months, then to Marseille, France, Belgium, then to Holland where he stayed until the fighting ceased. In December 1945, Les returned on the Queen Elizabeth and was discharged in January 1946 in Regina. In 1943, he married Violet Rogers and they raised five children then farmed in the Viscount District until his retirement. Les died in January 2002. KIRZINGER, Theodore “Ted” WWII Ted was born in Bruno, SK on May 5, 1919. He volunteered for the Army and took his basic training in BC. En route to overseas, he developed double pneumonia resulting in his being sent home and given his discharge. Ted farmed all his life in the Viscount, SK area and he raised four children with his wife, Florence Kellerman. He loved to curl and was active on the Rural Municipality of Viscount Council for twelve years. Ted died on July 26, 1987.
