The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 97 EDGAR (nee SMITH), Patricia A. “Pat” WWII Pat was born in March 1917 in Plenty, SK and grew up in Coleville, SK. She enlisted in December 1941 and served in the RCAF Women’s Division (WD). She trained as a wireless operator ground (WOG) and after serving as a Corporal in Newfoundland and in Nova Scotia, left the service in October 1945. After the war, she attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS and married Allan Edgar, an RCAF veteran with whom she had two sons. After Allan died, she returned west and took a job with a rural telephone company in Coleville. While there, she became an assistant cub master and took the Gilwell training for Scout leaders. When SaskTel took over the local telephone company in 1972, she was transferred to Saskatoon, SK. Pat has been active in the Legion and in the Ladies Auxiliary. EDWARDS, L. Norman WWII L. Norman was born in 1915 in Staffordshire, England. He joined the Army in February 1941 and served with the 8th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment (RECCE), 14th Canadian Hussars, in Germany, Normandy, Belgium, and Holland. He was wounded at Falaise in August 1944 and discharged in January 1946. Norman was awarded the Normandy Campaign and Bar, the Thank You Canada Holland Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and a wound stripe. He was a Life Member of RCL Melfort Branch 30 for sixty-six years. EGETO, Alex WWII Alex was born in Hungary prior to 1905. He served in the Canadian Forces, along with his brothers, Frank and Titus. He married Mary Poszar and they raised three children. Alex farmed in Plunkett, SK area then moved to a tobacco farm in Ontario. He also operated a grocery store for a time then went to work for Fleet Aircraft Manufacturing where he worked until his retirement in 1970. Alex passed away in 1973.
