John took his early schooling at Badger School and then went to high school in Plunkett. John married Nina Klimuk. In the early years, John worked in Ontario bush camps in the winter and farmed in the summer. Then he was employed at Federated Co-op in Saskatoon, SK. John joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was discharged in March 1946. John married Lena and they had five children. They farmed at Plunkett and later in the 1960s, moved to Makwa then retired to Meadow Lake, SK. John’s cousin, Mike Dopko, also enlisted. DOPKO, Michael “Mike” WWII Michael was born on September 15, 1917 in Plunkett, SK, where he attended the Badger country school. He joined the Army in 1941 and served in Canada before being discharged in 1942. Mike farmed all of his life north of Plunkett until he retired. He married Annie Hnatiw and they raised seven children. He was a school trustee, school bus driver and also worked in Manitoba for Crowly Maeracklin Catering from 1972-78. Mike and John Dopko were cousins. Mike passed away on May 3, 2005. DORGAN, John WWII John was born on November 30, 1920 in Pangman, SK. He enlisted as an AC2 on April 28, 1942 in Brandon, MB, trained as a pilot and became an instructor in Canada and the United Kingdom. He was a Flying Officer from the Fighter Pilot Training Unit at Calveley in Cheshire when he left the service in Montreal, QC on August 8, 1945. After the war, he worked as a grain buyer for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and was a service representative for Federated Cooperatives before obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1961 from the University of Saskatchewan. He also became the Registrar of the University. John joined The Royal Canadian Legion Pangman Branch 180 and was also a member of Saskatoon Branch 63 and Nutana Branch 362. He served as secretary of the United Services Institute in Saskatoon, coached hockey for Saskatoon’s elementary schools and visited the elderly in retirement homes. John married and had three sons and four daughters.
