The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 73 DOKTOR, Paul “Doc” WWII Paul, also called Doc, was born on November 19, 1923 in Tway, SK. He enlisted in Winnipeg, MB on October 12, 1942 and trained as a paratrooper at Fort Benning in Georgia. On a subsequent night jump at Camp Shilo in Manitoba, he split both heels and was taken off the overseas draft. However, he did receive both the U.S. and Canadian paratrooper wings. For the next two years, he remained in the paratroop battalion in Canada on fatigue duty and he left the service in Regina on March 26, 1946. He was married but divorced after having one daughter. Since the war, he has been a postmaster, a farmer, a carpenter and a house builder. DOLPHIN, John “Jack” Jr. WWII Jack was born in Meacham, SK in 1922. He attended the York and Meacham schools and helped on the family farm growing up. He went to work in Saskatoon, SK before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. After his discharge in 1945, he continued his education in accounting and office management. In 1971, the family moved to a farm near Calgary, AB. Jack raised two children with his wife, Joy Fines. DOLPHIN, John Robert “Jack” WWI Jack was born in Dundalk, ON in 1876. He was a machinist by trade and had been with the 55th Regiment for 10 years before enlisting in the Army in Sherbrooke, QC on January 9, 1902. He served as a Private with the 2nd Regiment of the Canadian Mounted Rifles in South Africa (Boer War). Discharged in 1902, he was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with 3 Clasps, the Cape Colony, Transvaal and S.A. 1902. After his discharge, he went to Fitchburg, Massachusetts to work at Simonds File Co. then married Mabel Strictland in 1906 with whom he raised eleven children. In 1909, Jack went homesteading in the Meacham, SK area, where he farmed all of his life. Jack had five children enlist in WWII: Arlington, Bud, Bill, Fern and Jack Jr. He died in 1953.
