The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 65 deBALINHARD, William David Carnegy “Bill” PEACETIME Bill was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on October 14, 1939. After completing his education, he served briefly with the Canadian Militia in the Artillery. In May 1958, Bill joined the R.C.M.P and saw service in Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia, serving on Highway Patrol, General Duty Detachment Duties and specializing in the Telecommunications Branch. He retired to pension in Nelson, BC after serving twenty-five years with the Force. Bill was awarded the R.C.M.P. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and he passed away on September 15, 1995. DESROSIERS, George WWII George was born in Meacham, SK on November 9, 1915. George grew up on the family farm and took his schooling at Red Willow around the Peterson area. He joined the Army in 1941 and served in England with the Signalman Corps. His brothers, George, Raymond and Léonce, enlisted at the same time. After the war, George remained in England and married Dorothy Horne of Liverpool and they had one daughter. He was employed by B.O.A.S. George died on August 10, 1993. DESROSIERS, Léonce WWII Léonce was born on October 9, 1919 in Peterson, SK and went to Red Willow School. He left the family farm at fourteen to work in Ontario but came home in 1941 to join the Army and serve in the Artillery. He trained in Halifax, NS, Glasgow, Scotland and Aldershot, England for 2 ½ years. On the front lines, he fought with his battalion for 11 consecutive months and was in Oldenburg, Germany when the war ended in 1945. Léonce was discharged in Regina, SK where he was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Five Year Medal, and the General Discharge Medal. He married Jean McInnis and farmed in Peterson/Meacham area. They had no children. He retired then worked at the Middle Lake senior home. In 1990, they retired to Humboldt until he passed away on July 10, 2008. Léonce was a member of RCL Humboldt Branch 28.
