The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 57 CROWE, Frederick Perry “Perry” WWII Perry was born on February 2, 1914 in Cottonwood, South Dakota, USA but went to various country schools in Northern Saskatchewan and in Prince Albert, SK. He loved to hunt, was a skilled fisherman and he farmed and logged in various places in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Perry married Marjorie Whitter and had two children. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in April 1944 and served overseas on HMCS Atlantic and Cornwallis, serving as a Gunnery Mate. He was discharged on December 14, 1945. His brother, Bob, also enlisted in WWII and his dad, Arthur, had enlisted in WWI. Perry spent his last days in Fort St. John, BC where he died on March 17, 1988. CROWE, Robert Jay “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Merriman, Nebraska, USA on June 20, 1908 but grew up in northern Saskatchewan and Prince Albert. He joined the Army in Vancouver, BC on August 31, 1942 and served in the UK and Continental Europe with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, then the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. After his discharge on February 22, 1946, he worked as a steam engineer and electrician for Domtar in Cornwall, ON until he died on April 23, 1981. He raised four children with his wife, Chris MacCrimmon, and was a member of RCL Lancaster Branch as well as Grand Master of his Masonic Lodge. Bob’s brother, Perry, served in WWII and his father, Arthur, in WWI. CURRAN, Charles Arthur WWII Charles was born on the family farm in Dunkirk, SK on November 8, 1923 and he attended a small country school. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 18, 1942 and served as an Aero engine mechanic. He trained in Moose Jaw, SK and Brandon, MB before going to St. Thomas, ON for Aero engine training. On completion, he was posted to the Bombing and Gunnery school at Mossbank, SK where he remained for a year and half. He was discharged in Calgary, AB on September 8, 1944 after his father died so he could return and take over the family farm. Charles resides in Calgary with his wife, Fern, with whom he raised four children.
