The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 47 CLAVELLE, Alfred “Fred” WWII Fred was born in Viscount, SK in 1916 and took all of his schooling at Golden Hill School, just south of Viscount. He joined the Army and took his military training at St. Jérôme, Québec. After his discharge, he took up farming and married Rose Faso, raising four children plus one foster son. Fred and Rose lived and worked in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He passed away in 1987. COATES, Edward Joseph “Teddy” WWII Teddy was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan on July 7, 1925. He enlisted in Regina on March 29, 1944 and joined the Regina Rifles, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental and Northwest Europe, and at the liberation of Holland. He was awarded the 193945 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Teddy was wounded during the war and carried shrapnel in his leg for the rest of his life. After his discharge as a Corporal on June 11, 1946, he returned to farming and married Merle Griffeth of Wadena and they had a son and a daughter. Teddy attended the Royal Regina Rifles reunion each year in the latter years until he passed away on July 3, 1993. He was a member of RCL Wadena Branch 62 for thirty-two years. COE, William “Bill” BOER WAR Bill was a Colonel with the 10th Lancers in the British Army and served in South Africa as well as in the Army in India during the Boer War. He then came to the Eltham district south of Plunkett, Saskatchewan and farmed in the area. Then during the First World War, he conducted military drills and exercises on the Eltham School grounds. He was the Pool delegate for the Plunkett subdistrict from 1928-1933 and with his wife, Agnes, he raised an adopted son. Bill died in 1934.
