The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 41 CAMPBELL, Charles Stuart WWI Charles was born in Kinistino, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in 1916 at age 18 and served with the 28th Battalion (Infantry) and the 188th Battalion in Canada, England and Vimy Ridge, France. He was discharged in February 1919. Charles returned to Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1987 on invitation from the Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable George Hees. He was a member of RCL Melfort Branch 30 for eleven years. CARDIFF, Robert John WWII Robert was born in Govan, Saskatchewan in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served with V70091 on the high seas and the English Channel. He was a member of RCL Moose Jaw Branch 59 for forty years. CAWKWELL, Clarence WWII Clarence was born in Grayson, Saskatchewan in 1919 and moved to the Nut Mountain area as a young lad. He joined the Army in 1941 and served with the 76th Battery of the 17th Field Regiment in England, Italy, Belgium, France and Holland. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Defence of Britain Medal. Discharged in 1945, he returned to the Nut Mountain area where he farmed, acted as postmaster and later worked for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance. He married Gladys Cartwright, raised two children and had five grandchildren. He loved life, family and friends. Clarence was a member of RCL Lintlaw Branch 23 and Kelvington Branch 19 for thirty years and died in 2010.
