The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 407 WEIR, William WWI William was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1882. He joined the Air Force and served with the Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I. William passed away in 1964. WHITE (nee WOOLEY), Edna WWII Edna was born on June 30, 1922 in Meacham, SK and grew up on the family farm east of there. She attended elementary school at York, then High School at Meacham before joining the Army and serving in Canada as a stenographer with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Edna married Clarence White and raised five children. Currently, she is living in Saskatoon. Edna and her sister, Joyce, both signed up in Saskatoon and their cousin, Joe Fleming, also enlisted. WHITE (nee HERITY), Patience Annie Nora “Nora” “Pat” WWII Patience was born in Virden, MB on April 18, 1926. She moved to Winnipeg, MB and joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) on June 23, 1943. She took her basic training in Alberta, first at Vermillion then in Edmonton for a 3-month clerical course. She was later posted to Kingston, ON and to #103 Depot Company Quartermaster Stores, eventually obtaining the rank of Company Quartermaster Sergeant. She was then picked for the Pacific Force. When the war ended, Patience was instrumental in closing down all the CWAC camps in the Kingston area. Patience received 1939-45 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. She returned to Winnipeg, where she married Ernest White of Edinburgh, Scotland. They had two children and Patience was widowed in 2002. She still resides in Winnipeg, close to her children and her brother, Boyd. She has been a member of RCL Charleswood Branch 100 for 8 years.
