We presume this is when he was called up to join the Army where he served as a Captain during World War II. There is no further mention of him. STEEL, William G. KOREA William was born on August 5, 1943 in Moose Jaw, SK. He served with the Toronto Highlanders Reserve in 1961 and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in February of 1962, serving until August of 1976. He received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. William has been a member of Shellbrook Branch 111 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 11 years. STEPTOE, Sydney Thomas WWI Sydney was born to John Thomas Steptoe on August 18, 1895 in Lewisham, Kent, England. He had applied for a homestead at Guernsey on September 13, 1915 and then moved to the Badger district, north of Plunkett, SK. He was single when he joined the Army in Humboldt, SK on March 10, 1916 and served as a Private with the 46th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Canadian Infantry, Saskatchewan Regiment. Sydney was killed in action on August 20, 1917 and he is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial located at Pas de Calais, France. He gave his homestead to his father upon his death.
