The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 373 SIEKAWITCH (SPENCER), Leo WWII Leo was born in Viscount, Saskatchewan in 1915. He went to school there and changed his surname from Siekawitch to Spencer before joining the Army where he served as a Corporal during World War II. After the war, he came back to work for a while with his dad, Tony, the GM dealer in Viscount. He then attained a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1950. He went to Alberta to work on the pipelines doing well inspections with the then new technology of X-ray. He raised two children with his wife, Beth McCublin, and they lived and retired in Edmonton, AB. Leo passed away around 2001. SIGOUIN, James Joseph “Jim” WWII Jim was born in Viscount, SK in 1913 after the family moved there from New Glasgow, Quebec in 1906. He took his schooling at Golden Hill School, south of Viscount, and the family later moved to Arborfield, SK in 1937. He joined the Army in 1942 and served during World War II. His brother, Julius, also enlisted and James was in the service for five years. Jim bought some land at Prairie River, SK and later moved to Nelson, BC where he worked at various jobs. He came back to Saskatoon to retire and he died in 2002. Jim was single. SIGOUIN, Julius WWII Julius was born to Jean Baptiste Sigouin in Viscount, SK after the family came from New Glasgow, Quebec in 1907. Julius took his schooling at Golden Hill School, south of Viscount. In 1937, the family moved to Arborfield, SK where Julius enlisted in the Army in 1942. His brother, Jim, also joined the Army. Julius remained single and he retired to Vancouver, BC where he died in 2001.
