The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 369 SEVERN, Arnold WWII Arnold was born in Viscount, SK and was educated through Saskatchewan Government correspondence courses, finishing up in Prairie River. He grew up on the family farm north of Viscount, SK but when his dad joined up in 1940, his mom and the boys moved to the BC coast. Arnold was too young but he joined the Canadian Scottish Regiment in 1941 anyway, serving on the continent and in England where he spent some time with his dad, Cliff, who was also stationed there. He went through many campaigns before returning home at the age of nineteen. SEVERN, Cecil WWII Cecil was born in Viscount, SK and took his schooling by Saskatchewan Government correspondence courses, finishing in Prairie River. Cecil was too young to join the forces but eventually, he did. He enlisted in November 1940 with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Newfoundland in a construction unit for the duration of the War. Cecil’s father, Cliff, and his two brothers, Arnold and Gordon, also served in WWII. After his discharge, Cecil worked for the Canadian Government for three years. SEVERN, Clifford Leroy “Cliff” WWI & WWII Cliff was born in Wadena, Minnesota, USA and served in both World War I and II. He signed up in Regina, SK in August 1918 but the war ended before he got any further. In 1940, he enlisted with the Engineers and was shipped to England where he was hurt in a mill accident. He went directly to Shaughnessy Hospital in Vancouver and remained there until well enough to be discharged. Cliff’s father was Hiram Chancy Severn. Cliff married Eva Dier and they raised four sons. Three of them, Cecil, Arnold and Gordon, enlisted in WWII.
